---1- No codes using an OBDII scanner, but can a TechII narrow
---down the problem and separate it out if it is Torque Converter or
---Transmission or other?
I'm not certain that a standard OBDII scanner can read the transmission codes. Regardless, if there is a code, you will get the "check transmission" (looks like a gear) light on the MIU. Then, have a Tech2 read the codes.
---2- Can the torque converter be removed alone despite WIS saying
---the whole transmission has to come out? I would have ramps,
---jacks, jack stands, and an engine brace if needed.
No way, no how. The torque converter lives in the bellhousing between the motor and the transmission. Even if the bellhousing had a hole through which you could remove the TC, it still has a transmission input shaft going through it.
---3- If the Torque Converter can be removed, I understand it can be
---replaced, but can it be inspected without further damage if I
---wanted to see visually what the problem was?
Not usually. They tend to be sealed units that cannot be taken apart. Also, they are really so very reliable that replacement is rarely, if ever, needed.
TCS-OFF is the Traction Control System light Perhaps that needs to be sorted first.
You are sure that the fluid is at the proper level? Not high and not low?
