At 24K miles, you'd have to be standing on the brakes at every stop to wear the rotors down below spec. Anyway, the minimum thickness is stamped right onto the rotor. Get a micrometer (you can get one at a hardware store for a few $), and check all around the rotor. I believe the minimum thickness is around 24mm, but check the rotor just to make sure. If there is any area that is dramatically different from another, then the rotor is warped. However, you'd feel that every time you brake.

If you need the rotors turned, it is very easy to get them off. Remove the caliper, hang it up off the spring, remove the two torx head screws holding it to the hub (you need an impact wrench to do this - get one that you can hit with a hammer at Sears), and then pull the rotor off. Auto shops with machine shops in back will turn them for about $10 each.

Modern automotive systems are designed for simplicity of assembly (to drive costs down in their manufacture), and for ease of maintenance (to squeeze out every dollar for service). Manufacturers make a lot less per car than they used to, but they make up for it in servicing (the cost of having brake pads replaced is not much different than many years ago when the systems were much more complicated). So if you can figure out how to do these things yourself, especially on a reliable vehicle like a Saab, you can drive for many hundreds of thousands of miles rather inexpensively.
