Help me diagnose/understand whats going on:
1 - Hard brake pedal presented itself suddenly. brakes are VERY hard to press, all the time. I'm getting a good leg workout driving these days!
2 - No hissing heard in the cabin.
3 - there was hissing under the hood .. I found a crack in the hard vacuum line right at the check valve (bingo right?)
I've ordered a new 3-line vacuum line. it has not arrived yet; the new model has 2 check valves.
- In the meantime I've patched the crack hoping there would be some improvement. Hissing under the hood is gone. No change though, no improvement at all.
- I've checked the vacuum at the connection to the booster, and there seems to be plenty of vacuum there.
So I'm wondering If I have this all wrong, could this be a problem with the brakes or brake hydraulics? (akebonos and brake fluid flush about 20k ago, no evidence of worn pads)
I'll have the new booster vacuum line in a few days and I'll be able to rule that out (or in). But the presence of good vacuum at the booster has me puzzled.
