Under the hood the two engines have little if anything in common . I have a 6 and it is a good motor with no sludge problems . I think the timing belt freaks everyone out , the v6 does have issues but so does the 2.3 . The limiting factor is the v6 was split into two groups : 1999-2001 , then mid 2001-2003 , even these don't interchange many parts! From my past I have had perfect interchange in parts for the earlier group .
