Well known vintage Saab enthusiast and proprietor of Fort Dodge Transmission, at one time the largest transmission shop in Iowa (could still be for all I know)
I have absorbed the opinion that the issue isn't so much the act of tranfusing new fluid through the cooler lines, but what happens inside a well used transmission that has had minimal service and suddenly receives all new fluid. The all new fluid supposedly has the ability to dislodge accumulated dirt from benign places and allow clumps of it to go where it can gum up the works. His opinion, based on experience of which I have none. My automatic transmission vehicles have always had regular drain-and-fill service consistent with good sense, manufacturer's recommendations, and severity of service. Like every single year when I was towing frequently, every 15,000 miles with 9Ks, and every 30,000 miles for normally driven 9-5s.
