Hello,
Back in 99 I was told by an area rep that most of the 1999 V6 motors were changed in port. It was due to either a failure to completely drill the oil port through the connecting rod to the wrist/gudgeon pin or a failure to properly clean the debris after the whole was drilled. It caused pistons to grenade. We did see one of them which I believe was an Enterprise Rental Car at the time. Part of the reason we were told about this was there was a bulletin or maybe a technical note that if you had a 1999 V6 with a complaint of excessive exhaust noise in the cabin check the seal at the top of the steering rack to see if it was missing, torn or misaligned. We were told that was from the engine swaps done at port. Good Luck, Bernie at George Riggin Specialty Automotive
