OK, this is my first SAAB, my first turbo-charged car. I haven't done anything my Aero, I don't have a service manual to understand things.
But I couldn't follow what the service on that link page was accomplishing.
The problem (they say) is carbon deposits on the turbine-side bearing, but they have you cleaning the throttle body and coolant tubes.
And step #15: Open the coolant expansion tank cap to release the overpressure in the cooling system. I doubt that SAAB is different (OK, they are kind of quirky) in the coolant expansion tank functioning. I'm not aware of any that design the expansion tank to become pressurized. It is merely a reservoir to hold excess coolant that the engine system displaces due to excessive heat. As the engine then cools, the coolant is drawn back in. Is the 9-5 different? I'm not saying that an expansion tank couldn't be designed to function that way, but they've worked for everybody else just fine without that additional costs and safety concerns.
