Re: New Alternator Battery But Battery Still Goes Dead Posted by pme [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Re: New Alternator Battery But Battery Still Goes Dead, Tom G ![]() |
I'm betting on the cable as a factor.
I had a good battery and good alternator, but battery was very slow to charge, and discharged on short trips (Start car, drive 5 minutes, park, repeat, etc.) when I was doing errands. Cable was bad enough that it wouldn't let the alternator do its job and recharge the battery. Corrosion was concentrated in the end between the alternator connection and the starter -- i.e., current was more efficiently getting down the cable as far as the starter than was getting up the cable from the alternator on the recharge.
As an aside, my indy only will install only Bosch remans after too many failures using local rebuild of Saab alternators. My Bosch reman alternator is about 5 years old and still going strong.
Good luck
