Performance observations with DIC and CPS faults

I have a stage II Brew City Boost ECU.
2003 Aero, autobox, 91,000
Recently I posted here that I was suspicious of a CPS problem that was marginal. Was not getting the typical failing CPS issues. However my performance had been reduced. Replaced the CPS and performance was better than ever.
Concluded that the ECU must be be able to cope with CPS data that had some dropouts, which also limited performance and responsiveness. The ECU might have been in a mode to guess the engine speed and acceleration at times.
So performance had recently been not as good and then a P1334. Cleared and that came back two days later. Put in a new DIC that I had on hand and performance is restored. So again, I want to conclude that the ECU was dealing with an issue and reducing performance and responsiveness. The WIS documentation for codes like P1334 is rather useless, but does imply that the problem is ignored or quietly accommodated until it persists for 200 continuous cycles [assume rotations].
So the question is what is going on when the ECU is in marginal fault adaption mode.
Perhaps these effects happen all of the time, but are more subtle with a stock ECU but are more evident with a higher output ECU.
