Would you people stop this %rap with the V6 not being reliable?!? So far this engine has had nothing but complements from its owners, and a lot of people here think that it is a much better choice than the base 4 - much stronger off-line, better passing power, and smoother. Two service advisors that I talked to at two different dealerships said that they are very reliable and should have no problem running well past the useful life of the vehicle. The only V6 to stay away from is the old one in the 9000 series.
The only beauty in the base 4 cyl. is somewhat better gas mileage than the V6 (although I routinely get 25 - 27MPG on the highway at 70 - 75MPH with my '99 V6), which might be more important in Europe, and a slightly better handling, since the car isn't as nose heavy with the four. Of course this all changes if you want a manual, since the V6 can't be had with one.
