I've used them with several cars for about seven years now. If all you are trying to do is remove dust, then they work just fine. They are _not_ a substitute for washing your car and can actually make the car look worse if anything gooey (bugs, sap etc.) are on the finish.
What these things are is a cotton mop that has been soaked in some kind of waxy compound. If the duster stays in contact with anything absorbent (say, your car's upholstrey or carpet), that stuff will leech out leaving a big stain at the point of contact.
