When you first took the car in, did the coolant look like a chocolate milk shake? That's the classic sign of the oil cooler itself leaking, and when it leaks, it generally causes oil in the coolant, which gets mixed up by the water pump impeller and makes a fine mess. It generally doesn't cause the coolant to leak, if anything the coolant level goes up as the oil content rises.
If you were just losing coolant, its possible that the oil cooler cover was leaking. Perhaps after removing, resealing, and perhaps replacing the oil cooler itself, the banjo bolts and o-rings are not properly secured and now oil is leaking into the coolant, giving you the foamy milkshake?
Depending on how far gone things were before you repaired them, there may be lots of residual oil running around in the cooling system (radiator, heater core, etc.) . Search the boards for a picture that SWEDECAR posted that illustrates how big a mess it can be.
On the lights, I'd start by getting the codes read, and see what the car is telling you. Years ago when I had my oil cooler leak, I didn't get any codes or lights. It may be something unrelated, or it may be a knock-on effect of the polluted cooling system.
Good luck
