Hello to all,
I am new to this board. I have owned a 99 9-5 2.3lpt (5speed) for about 6 months now. Very happy with it so far, trouble free. I've noticed that many members were having some blue smoke at start up. Since that time, (Ihave been paying more attention) I too get the blue smoke at startup but not all the time; I would say probably 60% of the time. The car drives fine, there are no other symptoms besides that and frankly, I would have not noticed this blue smoke phenomena had I not read the experiences of other members on this board. Luckily the car still has 5,000 km left on the warranty and a call to the dealer resulted in them saying to bring the car down as soon as possible for turbo replacement - no questions asked. My question, will a new turbo prevent this problem from re-occuring in the future assuming proper maintenance? Have the new turbos been enhanced in any way that they will last much longer than 75,000 km (47,000 miles)? Should I wait for new better replacement turbos which are possibly in the pipeline? Just concerned for the post-warranty period...
