There is not a dime's bit of difference in the thermodynamic properties of CFC 12 and HFC 134a. This is not the cause of the problem. It is Saab's automatic climiate control system that is the culprit. I have yet to find anyone who knows how it works. Mine has a mind of its own no matter what you do to it. My solution is either not to change the settings over long periods or to try to run it in a semi-manual mode (which doesn't work well either). Thanks to the board I learned that it is possible to get fresh air into the car with no heat or cooling by setting the temperature to LO and pressing ECON to turn off the compressor. Unfortunately when I try to use the system in an automatic mode after that it seems to go beserk. I like to have fresh air with the windows closed because of the excessive road noise in my '99 9-5.{Windows open; it's not very good with them closed either.] Good luck with your climate control system. All I can add that this SAAB is the least satisfying new car that I have ever had.
