Well, I finally have the answer regarding the 2007+ ATF Fill Plug Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Mon, 26 Mar 2018 15:38:10 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Today I received the pouch of five M17x1.5 threaded plugs that I ordered 2-1/2 weeks ago from a hardware supplier in Wales, sourced from Germany. Only $11 for the lot to be shipped to my home in Michigan.
The bad news is that the factory ATF fill plug is a M18x1.5 size. I obviously measured wrong.
The good news is that M18x1.5 fill plugs are relatively common. Both Grainger and Bel-Metric sell these with a 8mm recessed Hex. Bel-Metric offers a variety of materials, finishes, and heads.
The wrong plugs I purchased also had an 8mm recessed hex, and this drive fitting is MUCH deeper than the recessed T55 drive fitting on the factory plug. Less likely to strip out!
I heard the Volvo XC90 uses a 17mm plug for the engine sump. If any Volvo owners need a new sump plug I now have five.
