Hello,
Yes it is possible for the alternator to only work a little bit so it does not illuminate the light but undercharges the battery. Remember the alternator is rated at 140 Amps but it might not be producing that.
Also it could be the positive battery cable if it has not been replaced. Good Luck, Bernie
