Just to add my 2c to Bernie's comments.
Your symptoms were in line with what I was experiencing right before I replaced the positive battery cable as the excessive resistance in the corroded cable wasn't allowing the battery to recover from starting efficiently.
It was tricky at the time because most of my driving during the week was a 45 minute commute, all highway - plenty of time for the battery to recover. On the weekend - 20 minute drive to visit my parents, short hops around doing Saturday am errands - I experienced what you are.
