When we bought our first 9-5 with 125,000, I wasn't that knowledgeable about where the dipsticks were so when I pulled the auto tranny dip, the oil was so black, I thought it was the engine oil - never saw tranny fluid that colour before. It shifted fine but one of my first priorities was to do a drop and fill 2x. Another 125,000 km later and the tranny is still shifting fine. I have heard though that it can take some time for a transmission tech in a can to work as was your case. Same thing with my sis in her old Linc Nav. Her hard shifting gradually went away after some Lucas transmission honey was added. Note, always mix the honey with regular trans fluid to reduce it's viscosity or it could temporarily plug a passage or valve or two leading to fluid starvation.
