I've had practice on other 9-5s in that department. ;-)
A couple years back I picked up a 200k mile mile '03 wagon for my girlfriend for sub-$500. Replaced some deferred maintenance items immediately to get it into service and did very frequent ATF changes to resolve some clunky transmission issues early on. The transmission stabilized after the first few changes in the first 20k miles she drove it, and I've slowly let the ATF change interval stretch out a bit (from 5k changes out to 20k). It's been a great car for her, as her daily commute is 120 miles round-trip daily--mostly interstate driving. The car's quickly approaching 300k and still I'm comfortable jumping in it and going anywhere.
