I printed all the wiring diagrams out of the WIS, spread them out on the counter and spent an hour staring at them.
I think the grounds are definitely a strong candidate for the culprit. All the components related to starting, running and limp home share common grounds and joints.
Next on my list is the limp home solenoid. It is controlled by a relay that is controlled by the ECU. A fault in that circuit could also cause the limp home switch to set.
I probably won't get to dig in until the weekend. We lost a tech last week, so I'm working OT to try to keep us on schedule. I've got a BMW X5 N55 engine in 100 pieces for a head gasket (which requires dropping the entire drivetrain out the bottom of the car), a Porsche 944 with turbo issues, plus a Land Rover series III I'm doing a full mechanical resto on, a V4 Sonnett getting mechanical resto, and the owner dumped his neighbor's Vespa on me to fix the totally graunched front wheel bearings...
