After going about as deep into the Trionic wiring diagrams as possible, I had checked every wire and joint and component. I unsheathed the harness from the ECU to every engine mounted component, and did continuity and current tests on every wire I repaired joint 16, 17, 22, etc. The only component I had not tried to isolate was the evap sensor on the fuel tank.
There are two 5v power feeds from the ECU that supply the TPS/PPS, MAP, and Evap. According to the WIS, because the two 5v feeds are joined inside the TB a fault on one of these feeds will not cause the limp home to set, it has to be a fault on both. Well, that's not true. On my car, the circuit for ECU pin 69 had no faults. The evap sensor is on the circuit from pin 46. I cut the wire to the Evap sensor, and all the readings from the ECU went normal. Car started right up, the only thing now causing CEL now is the disconnected wire for the evap sensor
Speaking with my repair technician (aka mechanic) hat on -- you can't always believe what the factory service info says. You have to look at the symptoms and eliminate EVERY possible cause. Even the ones that the book says can't be a cause.
