Hello,
Unfortunately this is not the easiest system without a Tech 2. Just to activate the ac relay 3 computers/control modules have to click off the boxes and send the signal to the next one. First the ACC needs to send a request to DICE. It is going to check items like outside temperatur and inside temperature and requested temperture. Dice checks pressures and sends the signal to T7 ecm. T7 ecm checks if there any engine codes that tell it to turn off ac and if other parameters are met then sends a signal to the relay so it energize the ac clutch and start working.
If all that is met you have to first hope the clutch actually engages and turns the inside of the ac compressor. So check here for power.
As far as finding a leak I am a big fan of the dye and a black lite. Also different dyes work better than others. And different types of black light work better with some types of dyes. The led black lights seem to work pretty good. I would usually having someone vacuum the sytem, add dye then charge. Then turn in low and let is go for a good half hour so the dye has a chance to move around and leak out. If no leaks are found you can look in the water draining from the evaporator drains for hints of dye or remove the cabin filter and use a mirror to inspect the evaporator for leaks.
A couple quick things that will keep the ac from coming on are the outside temperature signal, removel of the fuse in the underhood fuse box that supplies power to the alarm siren, and ofcourse thermostat or engine coolant temp sensor codes in T7. Good Luck, Bernie
