That's really clever! I found a very small screw I had lying around that would fit in one of the oil holes that I used to push a couple of the new bearings into place. I loosened all of the caps, which relieved some pressure on the crankshaft, and made it easier to get the old ones out and the new ones in. The rear main seal had been replaced about 2 years ago, so I'm hoping that it's new enough to spring back into shape after being pulled on a little bit. I replaced the front main seal after replacing the bearings. The engine does feel smoother, but my crankshaft seems like it might be slightly bent in the middle. My bearings were also scratched and slightly worn, but numbers 3 and 4 were worn down clear past the copper. When I bolted everything back up, the crankshaft was extremely hard to turn, but it did turn. I turned it around two times to get everything back to TDC, took off the oil pan, and saw that the #3 and #4 bearings were already scratched up, even with lots of assembly lube used. I don't have the time to take the engine out, so for now, I'm running it as is. Eventually I will take out the engine and replace the crankshaft, or do whatever needs to get done to get everything turning smoothly. Still, it's an improvement over how it was.
