The 1999-2001 corner lights are plastic also and suffer the same separation anxiety. I have had a number of problems with the wagon tail lights also leaking. They are a little hard to reseal the way they are put together, but you don’t have to be tidy on the back. The older glass headlights can also leak a little because there is a rubber gasket between the glass and the plastic housing. But they are easy enough to take apart. The gaskets were available at one time but I haven’t checked lately. Proparts makes replacement corner lights but I haven’t heard of any experience with those. Are the new lights you put in Proparts? On my 2000, the rubber around the front corner lights is badly deteriorated, another problem, but mainly cosmetic. I may try the Proparts solution as the car is being painted and will look better overall. I’ll bet freezing and thawing cycles also contribute to the light leakage problems as any moisture that starts to get in is going to expand as it freezes. People who drive new cars miss out on all of these adventures.
