The K&N filters are worth what? 40 bucks?
That means that if Saab were to put them in instead they'd be looking at about 4 bucks.
$4 X 150000 vehicles = $600 000 for something that most buyers will never see or care about.
That's why.
You could say the same thing about the BPV, tires, brakes and anything else everyone on this board likes to upgrade- a little here and a little there and you've got an awfully expensive car all of the sudden. Every cent counts when you're talking mass production.
Think about what goes into the design and manufacture of an average car and I'm amazed that any mere mortal can afford one!
I've had one in the past and I was happy with it- I think its the foam type filters that don't provide adequate filtration- the K&N is a cotton filter combined with a coating which attracts the smaller particles IIRC and from what I've heard they are quite effective.
