It was me who got the "interior protection" Normally, I'd agree with Lou on this one- in fact when they tried to sell this to me on my last car I politely said "No, thank you". This time however I was taken in. The guy promised that I'd never have to wax my car again (before I start, I suppose I should say that in my case this was part of a package including the interior protection, undercoating, and paint sealer) Since my shoulders were still sore from waxing my old car the previous weekend this got my attention. The dealer promised that with the interior protection, the interior would never stain- which he demonstrated by pouring some of his coffee on a section of cardboard which was half treated and half not- it soaked into the untreated half and beaded and ran off of the treated half. Now, some might say this is just slick marketing, but included in the deal was the clause that if the interior EVER (as long as I own the car, and 4 more years for the next owner) stained, they would pay for professional cleaning and if that didn't work, they'd replace the affected area (carpet, seat, etc). Same deal with the undercoating- as long as I have it inspected every 2 years (free), if it ever rusts, they'll repair it for free. And the paint too- if it ever fades or is damaged by the environment it will be repaired free of charge. All of this was $750 bucks- I don't ever expect it to raise the value of the car, but this is only a premium of 1.25% on what I paid for the car and to me, it was worth it.
As the car is only a few months old, I can't evaluate the undercoating yet, but I had a similar treatment on an old '88 honda I had. I sold that car when it had 300000kms on it and it had next to no rust.
As far as the paint protection goes- after 4 months it still cleans up and beads water like a freshly waxed car, we'll see how that goes.
And finally, back to your original question, After cleaning the interior of the car several times, I find it easier to clean than other cars I've owned. This may be due to the interior treatment, or the materials and construction the Saab uses.
Its easy to dismiss this as "gravy" and I would be likely to as well, but I had to try it at least once and after I've had my car for a few years I'll decide then whether It was good value or not.

That should sufficiently muddle the issue,

Brad
