Pete: have the same situation. Dealer has made a good offer for a set of G'salv's. However, on my '87, had a set of Alpin's. These are great! Prior to that, had purchased set of Alpin's for my Volvo 940. These resemble the Alpin pilots as advertised on the Tire Rack website. Anyhow, both are fantastic in snow, but have a very distinct advantage on ice. This advantage has been proven under very slick driving conditions in Buffalo. Do not know about the G'slav's.

Now for size, have heard the recommendation to downsize. However, both vehicles had snows the same size as regular tire summer sizes. Had no porblem getting through the bumper and higher snows in Buffalo. By the way, according to them the SAAB dealer, for the Linear, must stick with the 16" size to clear bigger brakes.

By the way, the '940 snows were replacements for Blizzak's which I will never buy again. Both Alpin's appear to be far superior to them.

Note the G'slav's, as offered by the SAAB dealer are the same size as the standard tire on my Liner 9-5. They are sold in sets of four. If you contemplate snows, get four, and not two. Even though my Volvo is rear wheel drive, all point snows made a world of difference in the handling. It is worth the extra money in avoiding towing fees.

What is preventing me from ordering a set of Pilots are the rims. Am not familar with the alloys offered by Tire rack. Anybody out there have some experience with the alloys offered by the Tire Rack? These have to very resistant to road salt, something that eats away at everything on the car.

D-Pal
