The interior of the latest 3-series (the E46) has pretty good plastics. It doesn't look cheap, unlike the previous generations. Although the visors still look quite low-rent.
I still find the interior to be quite cramped, and the BMW automatic climate control is awful. Not only does it not move air very well on the automatic setting (the windows tend to fog up), but it also has attention deficit disorder: about 25% of the time, when you press a button, it ignores you. I've seen this on several E46s...
