but realistically, I'd be willing to bet that Mobil 1 of *any* viscosity would be fine for any SAAB engine.
However, as I wrote earlier, at least for my '02 Aero, SAAB only approves the use of certain viscosities, and 10W-30 is not one of them.
What's more, according to the website I posted earlier, these viscosities of Mobil 1 FAIL to meet MB spec 229.1:
- Mobil 1 Super-Syn 0W-30
- Mobil 1 Super-Syn 5W-30
- Mobil 1 Super-Syn 10W-30
MB spec 229.1 is MB's minimum for their 1998+ engines, "suitable for normal drain intervals".
Mobil 1 Super-Syn in 15W-50 meets MB 229.1, while Mobil 1 Super-Syn 0W-40 does even better: it meets MB 229.3! MB's 229.3 spec allows for longer drain intervals: on their cars, up to 25,000 miles. Also, MB 229.3 spec oils provide 1% fuel savings over MB 229.1 spec oils.
If you can find it, I'd imagine that the 0W-40 would outperform all other grades of Mobil 1, no matter what the conditions. The great thing about it is, it costs just about the same as the other viscosities (about $4.99/quart), and this viscosity also happens to be approved by SAAB!
