Hi Jason,

I too have a stick shift in my Linear, and it is the best manual
transmission I have ever driven. That is saying something because
I have *only* owned manual transmissions.

Yesterday, I took my new Linear on its first extended trip through
some delectable two-lane black-top north of San Francisco through Marin
County and beyond. Through all the gear changes, I did not have to think
about shifting at all. As with any good tool, it was as if my thoughts
were effortlessly transmitted through my arms to the wheels.

There is really no mistaking when 9-5's manual transmission engages.
If the road noise is quiet enough, I hear the most delectable big-machine
sounding "clunk". It is as if I'm the drill sergeant and the manual
transmission is a private saying "Yes, Sir!".

I too like the baseball-like feel of the leather shift knob. The *only*
thing I still have not gotten used to is fifth gear. Like I said, I've
been driving manual transmission all my adult life, and this fifth gear
will take some getting used to.

In addition, I like the heavy spring-loading of the manual transmission.
I absolutely insist on stick lining up right below 3rd in neutral. I
can't stand manual transmission which do not have this (such as the bad
manual transmission of a Ford Mustang). The heavy spring-loading really
helps to speed up shift from second to third. I just disengage from
second, relax my grip on shift knob and the stick takes nary a fraction
of a second to line up below 3rd. Then, all I have to do is push up.
It makes 2nd to 3rd shift almost as fast as all other shifts.

The stick shift on a 9-5 is a manual transmission connoisseur’s
dream! :-)

thanks

Jae
