Lots of old posts on this subjects....some of the issues you'll bump into are as follows: (some mentioned by previous poster)
1) Speaker impedances are not of your normal 4 ohm variety.. Most are in the low to mid 2 range.. which maximizes efficiency/volume to get the most out of the amp. But on the down side if you try to replace speakers, you could have problem with the balancing of the sound... The solution would be to change the amp along with the speakers... Or look for some 2 ohm car speaker manufacturers..
2) Front Door Speakers... as mentioned by others, be careful, as there are some air bag sensors that come into play.. You may want to have Saab or someone familar with Saab replace these if you have any doubts.
3) Front dash has 3 speakers... presenting 2 problems.. One is the impedance mismatch again... You want the center speaker to be lower in volume than the left and right dash , otherwise your soundstage will be less than ideal.. Also.. I'm not familar with manufacturers that sell single speakers.. so If you bought new dash speakers, and they are only sold in pairs you will have problems getting the third speaker to match...
4) Replacing the head unit will present problems with the interaction of the SID display etc... Honestly , the head unit is decent, and you'd probably be better off leaving that and replacing the speakers and amps...
Good luck and let us know what you come up with....
