I bought a great book called "A Speeder's Guide to Avoid Tickets" by James Eagan about 10 years ago that is a must read for any speeder out there. It gives invaluable advice on how to talk your way out of a ticket to how to fight it once it's written. I have been able to maintain a clean driving record despite having had at least a half dozen speeding tickets in the past 8 or so years (three on the way to SOCs) with the advice given in the book. I have fought every one and won.
The easiest thing to do is to offer to pay the fine but have the offense reduced to a non-moving violation so it won't go on your driving record.
At least 3 of my last tickets were out of state-in that case, call up the Clerk's office and ask what you can do to keep it off your record (remember, this is your only goal). Sometimes you can just talk to the assistant DA and get the ticket offense reduced and pay the fine. If not, get the name of the Judge and write a nice, polite letter and pay the fine. It works!
The bottom line here is that they want your money-the type of fine they issue is secondary (unless you're drunk, driving recklessly, etc-we're just talking speeding, 15mph or so above the limit). Money is the driving force behind speeding tickets-not safety. If safety were the only concern, then why are cars getting faster and more powerful instead of slower and more economical? But that's another beef...
Speeding tickets provide communities across our great country with the funds necessary to maintain their cash strapped budgets. Without this revenue stream, I daresay your typical smalltown USA would go the way of the dinosaur. Therefore, it is your patriotic duty to speed! Rev up those engines! ;-)
I've become somewhat of an expert in this field (through experience0ugh). Oh-and having a V1 helps tremendously-if anything but to reduce the speed at which you are clocked. I'd rather be ticketed for, say-82 in a 70 during hard braking than 100 in a 70 because I bet my license on a cheap(er) detector. Saving a few extra bucks on a cheaper detector won't be diddley when you get the ticket and your insurance rates go up. Do yourself a favor and get the best.
