When looking for a 9-5 this summer, I also bid on a 9-5 on Ebay. The price was great, around $13K for a manual trans car with about 60K miles. But I did a CarFax report on it, and found it had come off a lease and already had another owner who then sold it to the current seller. That didn't sound too good. Also, the seller just wanted to unload it. No inspection or certification at all.
So instead, I found on this site one of its sponsors: AndrewsofPrinceton. They get cars off lease, then bring them back to their shop and replace all fluids, redo brakes if needed, straighten rims, change all the filters, wiper blades, do a top to bottom cleaning, replace any broken parts, do a TechII analysis, etc. IOW, try to make it as close to new as possible. Then they give it a 12K mile warranty. I paid $14.5K for a 9-5 with 57K miles, and am extremely pleased with it.
It is worth it to spend a little extra to get a certified used vehicle, IMHO.
