I guess it's my own aviation heritage as well, I'm a Navy NFO. Aviation safety items like that interest me. Fighter controls are designed so you can feel the buttons, and don't have to take your hands off the throttle or stick. I had another car with lighted buttons, and never found it that useful. I LOVE having the controls on the steering wheel, but don't necessarily care about lighting them. To each their own. The nice thing about my other car was that it was pre-automatic A/C, and had the temp and fan controls on the steering wheel also. I guess it also depends on how you hold the steering wheel, and whether or not you need to move your hand to get to the buttons. You would have to ask the designer to be sure, but I really think they aren't lighted on purpose. It's like the CD that comes with the car that talks about the low range on the remote being a safety feature. Not sure if that was planned or the excuse they came up with.
