with a CD you were supposed to listen to that explained how things worked. It was a supplement to the stuff the dealer is supposed to do. Since I had a 99 sedan I didn't bother listening to the salesman, I knew more about the car than he did. But I did listen to the CD on the way home, and in the interesting stuff it said was that the low range was purposeful to deter code stealing and someone climbing into the car if you unlock it at far range. Like I said, it might be true, and it might be something they made up to explain the short range. Supposedly they listened to the complaints and made the range better on the new 9-3.

I've watched people complain about the range for years on this board. I never got it because I don't want to unlock my car from across the lot, I wait until I am right there, and I always lock it after I close my door, so I don't have to worry about it while I am walking off. It was a habit I picked up from my 900SE, where I used the deadbolt feature, which required the key to lock and unlock. Range doesn't matter to me. Everyone has things they like and don't like about their car.
