misses invoice by 150-200 dollars. Holdback, however is not listed on Edmunds, nor should it be. Holdback is designed to cover dealer advertising and floorplan costs. Take it from me, IT'S NOT PROFIT! It takes millions of dollars per year to operate even the smallest dealership, Holdback helps cover a dealership's expenses. Remember, we're not selling Toyotas here. We have a huge floorplan expense with a small number of units. A Toyota dealer can floor (wholesale inventory financing) 10 Toyotas per one Saab and sell the same ratio. This is makes holdback extremely important in covering our expenses as Saab dealers. We don't have the opportunity to sell several hundred cars a month, therefore we don't have the luxury to pull our shorts down and bear all to the world.

It is key to Saab's survival for the dealerships to be profitable. If Saab wants a good dealer network then they have to have the profit potential to entice the good dealers. No one in their right mind will put millions of dollars into a business that cannot make a decent return, nor should they be expected too.
