The weekend is here, let's enjoy it while we can, and keep the flames to a minimum.
TG gave some great info there, and I think he's probably correct; the owner's manual of my 9000T (non-DI though) called for precious-metal (gold-palladium) "EV" NGKs and it made absolutely NO difference performance-wise if you installed the much cheaper "ES" copper plugs.
Since it seems that the best way to prevent a DI failure is to replace the plugs very often, I may adopt a 10,000-mile plug-change interval. This would get expensive with the precious-metal plugs though ($60/set) so I'm considering installing the cheaper copper plugs if I go that route.
On the other hand, I'm also considering resetting the gap, and reinstalling the stock plugs at 10,000 miles and 20,000 miles, and then replacing them with the same precious-metal plugs at 30,000 miles... opinions on that?
As for heat range, it's easy to tell if your plugs are too hot or too cold: one that's too hot will be very white with no deposits, and one that's too cold will be fouled (covered with black deposits)
