I'm fairly new to Saab World -- bought a 2003 Aero 5-speed about a month ago. My 2003 has the touring package and all the other options. It stickered at around $41K and I got it for $28.9K and my car. Wholesale on my old car was around $5k, retail around $8K. So, you can figure my purchase price -- I think it was around $33K for the Aero. Now that's a lot better than $32K for a three year old car that doesn't have the MY2002 improvements. You can do much better.
BTW -- the dealership I went to had a new 2001 Aero on the showroom floor. Loaded, gorgeous and new. The sticker was $41K. The salesman told me that the incentives didn't apply to a car that old, so the 2001 would not be as good a deal as a 2002 demo or even a new 2003. The whole thing sounds very strange. I'd consider the 2000 only if you get an incredible deal. This car may have sat in one place for months or years. The tires could be flat-spotted. The oil and gas have sat in it for years. There aren't likely to be any real problems, but sitting around for years takes a toll on a car. Also, you will have suffered three years of depreciation before you hit 100 miles.
I'd offer in the low $20ks and try to get an extended warranty. Otherwise, you could do better on a 2002 demo or a new 2003.
