they're like buying any other kind of insurance (house, life, auto). You need to shop around and get lots of quotes, and you need to dig past the glowing brochures and find out what is really covered and what isn't.
Policies differ widely. Do a google search and you'll get a lot of hits. I think you're thinking of Warranty Gold, which is a company that advertises on edmunds.com. Get a quote from them. Credit unions and dealerships also sell extended warranties, and there are ads in the Autoweek classifieds. Generally, you have until 30 days/1000 miles left on your factory warranty, so don't wait TOO long.
I definitely recommend a warranty for ANY car made today; they're just too damn complicated and full of electronics, you have to cover yourself for the big catastrophic stuff and the medium annoying stuff.
