You mean so the filter won't dribble on it? A two-quart (approx) plastic juice bottle with a suitable cut-out can tuck right in behind the filter mounting flange. You can leave the cap on or use it as a "funnel" to get the drippings where they belong. There is no reason to remove the shield.
Jackstands supporting the car on the frame rails leave ***just barely*** enough room for my big round oil catch pan - not enough for comfort, as the oil drain washed up (but not over) the lip. Tooooo cold (entirely too cold) and tooooo much snow on the ground for ramps this week - to beat the low front end, I put the ramps on the down-slope of the driveway -
By "Delvac 1" I assume you're using 5W40 synthetic "truck oil". Good choice, IMO. Mobil 1 0W40 is another good choice, as well as Shell Rotella T synthetic (5W40) or Shell Helix (car grade 5W40) and the "boutique oils" (Amsoil, RedLine).
