that the movement is being caused by the mechanism which maintains the seat position you've chosen. Perhaps it only moves a small amount when you drive your car.
Now suppose that you hit another car head on at 40MPH. Would you rather:
a) have the seat adjustment mechanism withstand the force of the impact, or
b) continue along at 40mph until your seat goes through the steering wheel.
I think the safety item argument is valid. Even if I'm wrong, the dealership would probably rather replace the seat (thereby fixing the original problem) than possibly face a lawsuit from your estate.
