My view of OnStar changed 180 degrees last week. Decided to take a day trip to ski last week. Took a wrong exit and 10 miles later decided to call OnStar. The rep located me and gave me the fastest way to get back on the correct route.
On the way home, I pulled into a parking lot to check rattling noise on the ski rack. Only after I entered the lot did I realize it hadn't been plowed. The car had bottomed out in the snow and there was no way out with FWD. My cell phone battery was very low. OnStar was the only source of assurance that help was on the way (though a 90 minute wait). Luckily, some friendly passers-by helped me out before roadside assistance arrived. I was a skeptic about OnStar for a long time. After one experience of being stranded (with young kids), I have new appreciation for a human voice at the other end of OnStar.
