When they were first imported, I used to run part of Hyundai's customer satisfaction program and they were, to be kind, s**tboxes of the highest order. Almost as bad as Yugos.
That has changed, but they are still cheap, disposable cars built for people who look at cars as appliances (think toasters or $50 VCRs). There is a place for this kind of car (Saturns, Kia, etc.,) but they are not for people who enjoy driving, want comfort on a long drive, appreciate good handling, or expect something to happen when pressing on the right pedal. And they are not for people who expect the car to protect them in an accident. I'd take a 10 year old Saab over a new Hyundai any day. Or for that matter, I'll thake the 19-year-old C900 that's sitting in my driveway and is still a daily driver.
