Wandering/pull to the right fixed Posted by Scotty [Email] ![]() ![]() |
Background: I bought a 99 9-5 lpt 2 weeks ago with 80% tread left on fairly new tires. It had a steering wheel shimmy between 20-35mph, and wandered, not a true "pull" to the right. Dealer balanced wheels and said it took lots of weight and tires might be bad. It didn't fix the problem, so I rotated the fronts to the rear. Bingo, that stopped the wheel shimmy, but not the right pull.
I read several posts hear about other folks with a right pull, and some speculate it's an inherent problem in the 9-5. I knew it wasn't the crown of the road because my 900set would track straight on the same roads, and driving on the left side of the road caused the car to track straight (not wander left as one would expect.) Anyway I brought it to an STS shop (a New Jersey equivalent of a Firestone or Midas auto center.) I replaced all 4 tires and they did an alignment, and that fixed the right pull. It now tracks dead straight, even on fairly high crown roads, just like my 900set.
Just some info for the others who have complained of a right pull.
