My point was short, and I just asked if I had not correctly read the US Mobil 1 PDF date as 10/02. Glad somewhere in there I think you said I did read it right.

I don't "see" the dates you refererence as 6/7 ish or more years old, and was in effect asking you where they were. I don't see them.

Nice to see you keeping count af the 12 oils, which is kind of what I did at the 3 largest chain outlets in the Western Michigan Area.

Autozone carries the 0W-40 Mobil 1, plus most/all Mobil 1 other products.

Wal-Mart, HERE, has the Shell 5W-40 ACEA A3 in limited supply --like 6 bottles left(buried under the dust bunnies on the shelf).

Meijer--- has notta ACEA A3 any oil.

Target (or Tarjay) carries 5W-30 and 10W-30 Mobil 1--but notta A3 oil.

K-Mart, well they have their own frustrations--like survival to concern them.

What I was attempting to get you to to see in my posting, is perhaps the beginnings of why SAAB is servicing their cars with SJ oils,-----as other sources now are beginning to shed some more light on the general commercial lack of ACEA A3 oils ( compared to A1/A5) and offer USA equavlences.

What is in its infancy in terms of quantity, is that there is information from sources who admit that ACEA oils are primarily available in EUROPE--What a surprise, huh? and the USA driver can substitute "high quality synthetic oil with API SJ or greater" as one source puts it, and another source says that 229.3 spec = A3 = SJ only if their own brand oil is not available (of course).

I think more information will emerge along these lines over the next year or two.--But I thought you'd find it at least a little bit interesting.

Now, IF THIS IS TRUE, and this is a reach on my part---now we might POSSIBLY (BUT NOT ABSOLUTELY) see why SAAB and its dealer network worldwide is using Mobil 1 full synthetic SJ when SAAB's own spec is A3.

Not trying to "beat anybody up". But this "ACAE oilfever" on this BB way way overdone IMHO, and a calmer period of rationalization and analysis is appropriate.

Now to GMM-LL-A-025. It is a spec on duration, and not "economy". Making oil changes in the 2003 9-3 SS as an "intermediate service" interval.

Quoting SAAB's bulletin:
"It is important to realize that this computation is based on the use of fully synthetic oil which meets GM-LL-A-025 specification. This is a specification that is not commonly found in the US. The only 2 oils that are readily available that meet this specification are Mobil 1 0W-40 and SAAB 0W-30 Turbo Long-Life Synthetic oil.

"If an oil of lesser quality is used, the algorithm will be incorrect, and severe engine problems may occur"

End quote. per Saab USA dealer bulletin dated 12/2/2002.

Now------

MORE INFO

Same bulletin, BUT now pertaining to the 2003 9-5, and 2003 9-3 CV ( which for our readers is still the "old" style 9-3)

Service Intervals/Requirements: Requires Semi-Synthetic oil whic meets ACEA A3/B3, API SJ specification or higher.

Quoting:
For 2003, the 9-5 and 9-3 Convertible requirements remain the same as for 2002.
Oil changes are REQUIRED every 10,000 miles under NORMAL driving conditions.

("Required" and "Normal" are bolded on my behalf--not SAAB's)
"Oil requirements remain the same at either semi-synthetic or full synthetic. For the purposes of SAAB included maintenance, only semi-synthetic should be used"

Translation : We're only reimbursing your dealership for semi-synthetic costs in "inclusive service"

And finally:
(I think Jason knew I was not beating him up) at least I hope so.
