I think that we do see a lot of NG900 engine failures. Yes some are from poor quality oils, stop and go and excess drain intervals and dyno oils. But hondas get the same neglect and they don't crap out. I feel that the chains and sprockets are the week point in the Saab I4 engines. Some have posted some nasty sprocket wear etc with reasonable oil change histories. I think that this I4 is an engine that has some very high lubrication requirements. And for some, 10W30 does not work well. The balance shafts are the weak area. I am wondering if they present some interal jerking action that increase the loads on the sprockets and chain rollers. I don't recall ever seeing a problem with cam lobes, which are the classic spot for lubrication failure.
