While most would concede that ACEA specs exceed concurrent API specs, I think all this arguing is really just speculative. I wouldn't put too much stock into which Mobil site says what. The Euro specs available thru the US site have a published date of July 1996!! That means they were assembled AT LEAST 7 yrs ago!! And more than 6 yrs prior to the US specs, too. Mobil's notorious for not updating their stuff, & for inputting the wrong info when they do get around to it. (Look at how many tries it took them to get the US specs to their current state: 4 that I know of since 10/02!)
I think the more likely scenario is that because Europe's already accepted synthetic oils as the de facto standard, there's not as much concern on Mobil's part to update their marketing info.
