I have been trying to convince folks of the merits of xW40 oils for a while, ever since I tried Mobil Delvac 1 5W40 in my 95SET. Smoother engine, quieter, better gas mileage than with Mobil 1 10W30. Just my experience of course. But there is no reason to assume that an oil that is good for a new tight engine is proper for the same engine when mature with larger clearances. Some have been unwilling to believe that anthing other than what it printed in the hholy owner's manual could be considered. But they loose track of the fact that the owner's manual was written by mortal engineers.
For those who don't know, Mobil Delvac 1 is a fully sysntheic oil for DH diesel engines, with the latest gasoline API specs too.
If 0W40 is good for new vehciles, 5W40 is a match too. Perhaps less deposits from fried VI improvers as well.
