why I prefer 0W-40

in a nutshell:
When Mobil recently reformulated Mobil 1 from "Tri-Synthetic" to "SuperSyn" there was lots of noise on the internet about the newer formulation being inferior, with the notable exception of the 0W-40 grade. I have no idea as to the validity of this, but it certainly piqued my interest.
Later, I found out that Mercedes-Benz doesn't approve the use of Mobil 1 SuperSyn 5W-30, 0W-30, or 10W-30 in their cars... Having been a longtime user of Mobil 1 5W-30, I was a bit shocked, to say the least.
Anyhow, by that time, M1 0W-40 was available, so it became my choice of oil... at the time, it met MB 229.1 and MB 229.3 spec [good for 25,000 mi in MB cars], and now it's been labeled as meeting the more stringent MB 229.5 too. Very, very few oils meet MB 229.5 spec.
What about SAAB? Well, the new M1 0W-40 label explicitly states that it meets SAAB specifications, as well as GM Longlife spec LL-A-025.
M1 0W-40 is factory fill in all SAAB, Porsche, and Mercedes-Benz AMG vehicles.
It's only $4.99/qt, available at all AutoZone stores in the U.S.
It undoubtedly helps my Aero achieve 33+ mpg [39 Imp mpg] at an average speed of 70 mph! (on a recent trip out of town)
Great stuff.
