Yes, the GM-LL spec is a duration spec, but, since nobody here has the spec, we don't know what else it requires. Since ALL BUT ONE of the 12 GM-LL approved oils are 0W-30, we can infer there to be extensive fuel economy criteria as well. This is further supported by the fact that the one 0w-40 on the list meets GF-3 for fuel savings.
I did compare Saab's oil recommendations from 4 source documents. The consistencies across the 2000-2003 span are for oils with a 100*C viscosity of SAE 30/40 & an ACEA rating of A3. The trend is toward fully synthetic oils with ever-lower cold viscosities.
